A prayer of supplication is a prayer in which we make our petitions, requests, and concerns known to God. We approach God in our prayers with humility and sincerity. This is our opportunity to approach a gracious God with confidence that our prayers will be answered according to His Word and His will. A prayer of supplication is not the opportunity to treat God as if He is Santa Clause. It is the opportunity to come under subjection to His authority in our lives. When we come to God with our requests and concerns, it is an acknowledgment that we are requesting that our will be conformed to His will. God is omniscient and is aware of all of our requests before we ask Him. This is our opportunity to trust God with our cares and concerns (1 Peter 5:7). We should always have faith that God will respond to our prayers in our best interests. We present God with our requests from our hearts and He will respond by presenting His will to our hearts. We also have the opportunity to intercede for others in prayer. We should have a heart for the concerns and well-being of others. We should pray for deliverance and healing for others within the Body of Christ and the world. We should pray that all leadership be governed by the Holy Spirit. We should pray that the Body of Christ become unified and sanctified for God's glory. We should pray for protection for the powers of evil against the Body of Christ and in the world. Remember, the second commandment concerning love is that we should love one another (Matthew 22:39). Intercessory pray shows our obedience and commitment in honoring God's Word concerning the welfare of others (1 Thessalonians 5:11-18). Jesus Christ is the perfect example as an intercessor between the Body of Christ and God. He came to be the sacrificial atonement between God and mankind. Because of the love Jesus Christ has for us, we have to exemplify the same love for others in our prayer life. more
Because of our relationship with God through Christ, we have the confidence in knowing that our prayers will be answered through our obedience to His Word and the will of God. We should always be bold and specific in our request to God (Hebrews 4:16). The specifics will remind us who the author is of our answered prayers. We can find comfort in knowing that God is the Master of all, author of the master plan, and gives us purpose in His plan.
